Crunchy Spam Sticks

This recipe came from a Spamtastic website devoted to Spam recipes. I decided that it would be the perfect introduction to the world of cooking with canned spiced meat. Not too weird, not too difficult.

Here's the recipe:

1 cn Spam luncheon meat; (12 oz)
1 Egg
2 tb Milk
3 tb All-purpose flour
1/4 ts Freshly-ground black pepper
1 c Instant mashed potato flakes
Ketchup

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Slice Spam into 8 pieces; cut each slice in half lengthwise.

Beat together egg and milk. Combine flour and black pepper. Coat each Spam slice with flour mixture. Dip in milk mixture. Roll in potato flakes.

Place on baking sheet. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown, turning once. Serve with ketchup.

So this was pretty easy. I concluded that it was lacking some flavor, and really could have been spicier. Garlic or seasoning salt may have added to it. Overall, I would rate it a 4 out of 10 just because it was pretty bland.

Tasty Rating: 4/10
Grossness Rating: 3/10 (based almost solely on the slight cat-food odor when I opened the can)
Kid Rating: One bite
Husband Rating: 4/10
